THE BASIS FOR THE BELIEVER'S FAMILY FELLOWSHIP
Results of Salvation – Part 3
1 JOHN 1:5- 1 JOHN 2:2

(October 6, 2019 – SUN a.m. – MBC baesa)

Introduction:
Today we are going to continue our study about the five principle results of our salvation. This is the third part and it is about the basis for the believer’s Family fellowship.
I- JUSTIFICATION
II- JUDGEMENT ON THE OLD SINFUL NATURE
III- BASIS FOR THE BELIEVER'S FAMILY FELLOWSHIP

Regarding our Passage: 1 John 1:5-1 John 2:2, Charles Ryrie says, “In it John lays down vital principles for daily Christian living, and this fellowship is based on the death of Christ (v. 7). Thus another benefit of His death is that it provides for enjoyment of fellowship within the family of God.” - Charles Caldwell Ryrie, Basic Theology (Chicago, Ill.: Moody Press, 1999), 347.
     A. THE CONCERN FOCUS OF THIS FORMAL WRITING
• Our passage is personally written to Christians
1.) The Occurrence of the Pronouns (The pronouns “we” and “us” occurred 18 times in 6 verses)
2.) The Object of the Passage (The subject is objectively written to Christians – 1 John 2:1)
1 John 2:1 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:”
     B. THE CONTINUATION OF FORGIVENESS FOR FAMILY FELLOWSHIP
1.) Salvation granted full forgiveness (justification – Ephesians 1:7)
→ Full forgiveness for justification is granted at salvation.
Ephesians 1:7 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;”
Romans 5:9 “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
Romans 3:24-25 “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”
          2.) Scriptures assumes continual forgiveness (Luke 11:4, 2 Corinthians 2:10, Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 3:13)
• Forgiveness is needed for ongoing family fellowship with God
Luke 11:4 “And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”
2 Corinthians 2:10 “To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;”
Ephesians 4:32 “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
Colossians 3:13 “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
• Christians need continual forgiveness for ongoing fellowship
     C. THE CONDITIONS TO ENJOY FAMILY FELLOWSHIP
          1.) The Christian’s Walk (Walking in the Light – 1 John 1:5-7)
1 John 1:5-7 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
• What is the difference between the idea of ‘God is light’ and our ‘walking in the light’?
          2.) The Confession sin (1 John 1:9)
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
               a. Christian and God Saying the same thing about sin.
               b. Christian and God Viewing sin the same way
Question: Why is it necessary to have the same perspective or view about sin?
Answer: Confession is not just repeating back to God what you have done, it involves forsaking the sin.
     D. THE CONFESSION OF SIN PUBLICLY IN FORMAT
          1.) When is Confession necessary?
               a. Private confession is always necessary (1 John 1:9)
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
               b. Public confession is sometimes necessary (James 5:16, Acts 19:18)
James 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
Acts 19:18 “And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.”
2.) What Sin Require Public Confession?
               a. Public sin require a public confession
               b. Public confession must be done voluntarily.
               c. Public confession must be done for edification of others.
     E. THE CAUSE OF RESTORATION TO FELLOWSHIP (Christ is the propitiation for our sins – 1 John 2:1-2)
1 John 2:1-2 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
• The propitiation that is available in Christ is the reason God restores to fellowship.
