This is a soulwinner’s verse.
Its words are simple, directs, definite and easy to be understood.
No Generation since the Great commission was given has ever fulfilled the command to preach the Gospel to every creature.
Some argue that the reason for our failure is disorganization, isolation and competition among Christians.
Others argue that our failure is due to prejudice, jealousy, envy and strife.
But in my humble opinion, we have failed to reach the world for Christ because we have gotten away from the clear, direct, simple, and sure teaching of this text.
There are three important things in this verse:
I – PASSION OF THE SOUL WINNER
Psalm 126:5-6 “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
-
Here the Scripture says “He that goeth forth and weepeth”
-
I do not think the text means that we must literally shed tears every time we attempt to lead a soul to Christ.
-
But I am absolutely sure that the word “weepeth” indicates passion.
A. Passion for the Saviour
- There must be a burning passion for the Savior.
- If every Christian in the world loved the Savior like he ought to love Him, we would have already evangelized the world.
- Someone asked Hudson Taylor (missionary to China), “Mr. Taylor don’t you think the one requirement for missionaries is that they love souls?” And the great old missionary replied, “No the one requirement for missionaries is that they love God. If they love God, they will love souls.”
- When Jesus was asked by the lawyer in Matthew 22:36 “Master which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus replied in verses 37, 38 “Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
- This is the first and great commandment
- Then the greatest sin would be to break that commandment.
- The church of Ephesus in Revelation 2 was commanded by our Lord for their labor, work, patience, separation and steadfastness.
- But He said in verse 4 “I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.”
- How and today that many of us are separated and sound and straight but like the church of Ephesus, we have left our first love.
- The problem of a church why they need revivals is not why Christians cannot win souls to Christ it is a symptom.
- The problem is they do not love God. Jesus said in John 14:15 “If ye love me keep my commandments.”
- Charles Spurgeon once said, “I want to love Jesus so much that when I look up to Heaven and say “Dear Jesus, I love you,” He will look down and say, “Yes, Jojo, I know it.” Are we sure Jesus will answer “Yes I know it.”
- Are we sure Jesus will answer “Yes I know it.”
- To be sure we must keep His plain, clear commandments found in Mark 16:15.
B. Passion for the Sinners
- There must be a burning passion for sinners.
- I am afraid the psalmist was referring to a majority of believers when he said in Psalm 142:4 “No man cared for my soul.”
- If you love sinners, you need to have patient and need to understand, you need to tell of the danger of hell, you will never quit soulwinning, you will spend more time praying for souls, you must show them that Christ is real in your life.
II – PROGRAM OF THE SOUL WINNER
Psalm 126:5-6 “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
Here it is in clear and unmistakable language, “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
A. Go
Psalm 126:5-6 “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
- The first and primary prerequisite in soul-winning.
- There is not a single verse in all the Bible that tells the sinner to go to church.
- But there are many verses that tell the saints to go after sinners. (Luke 14:23; Luke 16:15)
- I think for one unfruitful year, after I was saved in a Baptist church in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila and never lead one single soul to Christ outside because I never go.
- Praying is wonderful, but it is not a substitute for going.
- Giving is commendable and needful, but it is not substitute for going.
- No one will ever comeback rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him until he first goes.
- It happened on April 2, 1989, when heavy rain hindered our visitation and soulwinning program of our church, it seemed it would never stop and the streets began to have flood.
- But thank God after almost 2 hours it stop and we decided to go out and I went into my bible study contacts, there was the soul waiting and professed to believe Jesus as his personal Savior. Suddenly, I remembered Psalm 126:5-6.
- When is the last time you go out and open your bible to someone and began witnessing to that person about gospel of salvation.
B. Weeping
Psalm 126:5-6 “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
- The second step in soulwinner’s program is weeping.
- No one will ever be an effective soulwinner without a genuine love for sinners.
- To prove we love others is when we wept. Christ so love the world, He died for our sins.
- The way to cultivate a greater love for sinners is to constantly remind oneself of the infinite price Jesus paid for their redemption.
- When we see how much the dear Lord loves sinners, it will be impossible for us to love the Lord and not love those for whom He died.
C. Bearing Precious seed
Psalm 126:5-6 “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
- The third step in soulwinner’s program is bearing precious seed.
- The Bible says in Luke 8:11 “The seed is the Word of God.”
- It is not enough to invite the unsaved individual to church or to tell him about the music program, the youth program, or to explain the comforts of the new church auditorium or the eloquence and preaching ability of the pastor.
- We have not yet done what Psalm 126:6 says until we have opened the Word of God and shown the sinner how to be saved.
- Inviting people to attend the church services is well and good but we cannot claim the promise of Psalm 126:6 until we have obeyed explicitly its simple, scriptural and sure program.
- Every time you lead a soul to Christ, your confidence will grow.
- Confidence is the child of achievement.
- The more success you have, the more successful will you become.
- The religious world is constantly coming up with new ideas and new methods on how to win souls to Christ.
- Everything from lifestyle evangelism to friendship evangelism.
- But the simple, sure, scriptural program is here in Psalm 126:6
- The program works if we can only get Christians to work the program. GO, WEEP, and BEAR PRECIOUS SEED.
III – PROMISE FOR THE SOUL WINNER
Psalm 126:6 “shall doubtless come again with rejoicing bringing his sheaves with him.”
A. Clear Promise
- If any believer did exactly what the verse says and did not come back rejoicing, bringing his sheeves with him!
- Their God would lose His honor.
- God would be found to be liar and thus dethrone Himself as God.
- Titus 1:2 says “God, that cannot lie”
- Hebrews 6:18 says “it was impossible for God to lie.”
- There is no problem with God’s fulfilling His promise.
- The problem is getting men to follow the program.
- If we follow the program, we may rest assured that God will fulfill His promise.
I know this verse is true for two reasons:
1. It is found in the Bible.
2. I have seen it work in my own lifetime and time again.
B. Certain Promise
- Notice the language of the text, “shall doubtless.”
- “shall” is a certain word, it is a positive word.
- Doubtless means that there is no doubt about it.
Example: Philip shared the Savior Jesus to the Ethiopian Eunuch and converted
Example: Jesus Christ endured the cross and the promise in Hebrews 12:2 says “The joy that was set before Him.”
C. Changeless Promise
- The promise is the same today as it was when the Bible was written.
- The Bible says in Psalm 119:89 “Forever O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.”
- Some Preachers say that you do not build a church in the 1980’s the same way you built a church in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
- Bible does not have one program for the 60’s and 70’s and another for 80’s.
- The program never changes and neither does the promise.
- When Jesus gave the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19,20, He close by saying “even unto the end of the world.”
- The measure of success in soulwinning depends entirely upon the measure of obedience to these words: “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”
