What is meant of the word GOSPEL?

The term gospel is found in the New Testament 98 times in the King James Bible (KJV).

The word gospel originates from the meaning of the New Testament Greek noun evangelion  (occurring 76 times) meaning "good news".

This meaning was transmitted literally into Old English as godspell, eventually becoming gospel.

A word of Anglo-Saxon origin, and meaning "God's spell"

The Gospel is epitomized by Jesus Christ in the following proclamation: "And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:15)

The gospel is the joyous proclamation of God's redemptive activity in Christ Jesus on behalf of man enslaved by sin.

I- THE PERSON OF THE GOSPEL

There is no so called full gospel for there is no 90 or 99% gospel and neither half gospel.

The Gospel is not the bible and the bible is not the gospel but the gospel is in the bible.

The message of the gospel is centered on the message of death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The message of salvation of any religious group is not indeed the gospel without Christ died for our sins, buried, and after 3 days has risen from the death.

I Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.

I Corinthians 15:14- 17 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

II- THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

A. Power to Save

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

We can be born again through the Word of truth and that Word of truth is the Gospel of Salvation.

James 1:18 f his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise

B. Power to Change

I Timothy 1: 12- 15 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

III- THE PUNISHMENT OF NOT BELIEVING THE GOSPEL

A. Eternal Condemnation of the wrath of God

John 3:15-18, 36 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him

B. Everlasting Destruction on the Revelation of Christ

II Thessalonians 1: 7- 9 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;"

C. Excluded at the Rapture of the Believer

I Thessalonians 4:13- 18 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

IV- THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL

A. Christ Commanded it

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

B. Apostles Preach it

Acts 4: 8-10, Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Acts 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

I Corinthians 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

I Corinthians 9:16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel
