THINGS WE SHOULD NOT LOVE

Proverbs 20:13 (January 27, 2016)
The Bible teaches us that there are some things we should not love:

1. LOVE NOT SLEEP

Proverbs 20:13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.”

This warns you about poverty. You need to take sufficient rest and then wake up but you need to get going and do everything in a full day.

2. LOVE NOT PLEASURE

Proverbs 21:17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.”

If you don’t want to go broke don’t love pleasure.  Spiritually bankruptcy will be experienced by loving pleasure according to 2 Timothy 3:4.

3. LOVE NOT MAMMON

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

Anyone who loves mammon ended up in serving it and despising God.  The Bible warns us that loving money results to erring from the faith and piercing themselves through with many sorrows

4. LOVE NOT YOURSELF

2 Timothy 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,”

It will leads you doing all the sins of the perilous times mentioned in 2 Timothy 3:1-4 when you love yourself.

5. LOVE NOT PREEMINENCE

3 John 9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.”

Those people in a church who love to have the preeminence do not want to accept or welcome any missionaries or preachers of God. This was the Pharisees characteristics and behavior who loved the chief seats and salutations of people in the market.

6. LOVE NOT THE PRAISE OF MEN

John 12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God”

Whosoever love the praise of men, surely will miss the praise of God

7. LOVE NOT YOUR LIFE

John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.”

How someone scared and upset once heard the bad medical results is an evidence of how much you love your life. You can’t love your life and never can keep it by yourself. We can see that the disciples of the Lord were not careful with their lives.

8. LOVE NOT THE WORLD

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”

When you love the world the love of the Father is not in you. The people become worldly because they don’t love God. They can’t love both the world and the Lord at the same time. In John 14:21, God’s love is manifested and in Romans 5:5 the love of God shed abroad in our heart by the Holy Ghost.

It is easy to depart from the ministry and even from the men of God if you love the world—2 Timothy 4:10

It is expected that the world hates you, if you don’t love the world—John 15:19

9. LOVE NOT DEATH

Proverbs 8:36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.”

Those people who hate godliness and God himself love death.

Those men who hate wisdom and sin against wisdom are those men who love death. Men easily kill men like wild animals do.

We can observe that there the entertainment includes much about death (in radio, novels, TV programs, in computer war games, etc.) – people even young minor age become more foolish and more infatuated with death.

10. LOVE NOT STRIFE

Proverbs 17:19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.”

The Bible says that a man who loves strife loves transgression. You are not going to turn the man who loves strife by striving with him instead you must deal with his transgression and his desire to transgress.

11. LOVE NOT LYING

Revelations 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Those who love and make lies are with those without Christ wind up in hell, out of heaven and with the dogs.
